Exponential Extension
Working your extensors–the muscles that open your hand–along with the usual crushing, pinching, and supporting movements is essential to building a stable hand. A truly strong and healthy hand is one that is balanced in strength, and that means hitting all the muscles from every angle. Problem is, it’s hard to find tools to train your extensors, and so they’re easily forgotten until it’s too late and you’ve dropped the weight or developed a bad case of tennis elbow.
A simple but very effective exercise for training the extensors can be done with rubber bands: inserting your five fingers up to the first joint into the band and expanding and contracting your fingers will give your hand-opening muscles an excellent workout and is proven therapy for tennis elbow and discomfort from arthritis in the hand and lower arm–and it helps keep these ailments at bay. But regular rubber bands are uncomfortable, break easily, and vary greatly in strength and durability, and they are not designed specifically for the task at hand.
Not so with our Expand-Your-Hand-Bands: these sturdy rubber bands are wide enough for comfort, thick enough for lasting power, and graduated in strength to give you a range of workout possibilities. The set of five starts with the easier white band at three-eighths inches in width and works its way up through the green, yellow, and blue bands to the tough red at seven-eighths inches in width. The color-coding makes it easy to grab the right one: lighter resistance for therapy-rehabilitation and flexibility work, and heavier resistance for building strength. Just slip on an Expand-Your-Hand-Band and expand the power of your hand
